William Osler Health System (Osler) is one of Canada’s largest and busiest healthcare systems, and now, it is working with the international medical imaging and cybersecurity company Sectra (STO: SECT B) to implement its AI-powered Sectra Amplifier Service to dramatically boost workflow efficiency, diagnostic accuracy, and patient-centered care at Osler’s five hospital sites.
Driving Clinical Efficiency with AI Integration
Central to the transition is Sectra Amplifier Service, a cloud-based, fully managed AI platform that allows vetted third-party AI applications to be directly integrated into clinical workflows. Osler has more than 575,000 yearly diagnostic imaging exams, and now they can operate multiple AI tools through a single infrastructure to streamline operations and decrease the burden on their internal IT teams.
“Amplifier Services allow us to rethink our delivery of imaging services across our expanding communities. It’s more than just automation – it’s consistency, care, and precision,” explains David Stankiewicz, Osler’s VP of Digital Transformation.
A Scalable Imaging Solution for a Growing Community
Osler is located in one of Canada’s fastest-growing areas and is proud to provide care to over 1.3 million residents. Since 2019, the health system has relied on Sectra’s enterprise imaging solution to support their orthopedics work‐up, and in 2023, their radiology and breast imaging were included with Sectra’s vendor-neutral archive (VNA) support. This unique positioning allowed Osler to scale up using AI and take a proactive leap toward next-generation diagnostics.
Sectra allows its client partners to use imaging in a secure, scalable, and economical way. The modular capabilities of Sectra allow the provider to grow with its needs, and offer a holistic approach that enables workflows regardless of department, reducing the costs of operation at the same time.
Building Trust in AI for Radiology
AI is rapidly gaining ground in healthcare, but successful implementation demands more than just promising algorithms. According to Nader Soltani, President of Sectra Canada Inc., “The transition from interest to real-world use in clinical workflows is a challenge. We’re proud to help William Osler Health System navigate this journey with a trusted platform and full-service support.”
The Amplifier AI Service ensures compliance, ongoing support, and data security critical for a hospital system operating at scale. By managing the deployment, hosting, and lifecycle of AI tools, Sectra simplifies innovation, allowing clinicians to focus on delivering high-quality care.
Looking Ahead
As William Osler Health System grows and adds or updates facilities, it partners with Sectra and composes what is likely going to be seen as part of a larger initiative in Canadian healthcare: a commitment to the strategic use of AI in a way that improves diagnostic quality and the overall quality of care.
With integrated imaging, a strong platform, and smart AI, Osler is providing a strong prototype of what a care system that is enabled by technology looks like.
