RackBank Datacentres, a well-known Indian data centre solutions supplier, has opened a cutting-edge 80mw large-scale AI Data Centre Park in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. This strategic move marks a significant step forward in boosting Central India’s digital infrastructure. The initiative would start with a ₹1,000 crore investment and aim to reach a total of ₹3,000 crore within five years.
This historic endeavour demonstrates RackBank’s dedication to expanding India’s AI and cloud computing capabilities through a strong, scalable data centre infrastructure. The project was inaugurated by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
Strategic RackBank Investment for a Digital Future
The newly launched data centre spans 13.5 acres and is strategically built to meet the growing demand for high-performance computing in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and big data. This facility marks a major advancement in India’s digital infrastructure, particularly beyond the country’s established tech hubs.
Capable of hosting up to 100,000 GPUs, the centre incorporates cutting-edge liquid immersion cooling technology, significantly improving energy efficiency. This innovation reduces both power consumption and cooling costs by as much as 70% when compared to traditional cooling methods. Phase I is already operational, providing an 80-megawatt IT load capacity.
Talking about this initiative, the Founder & CEO of RackBank, Narendra Sen said,
I am proud to be on this landmark journey to set up Chhattisgarh’s first purpose-built AI-focused Datacentre Park to meet India’s growing AI computing needs. The new facility will provide greater cost efficiencies to businesses by scaling and leveraging India’s GPU compute capacity to meet India’s AI needs.
RackBank will develop the proposed AI Data Centre Park in four phases, beginning with an initial power capacity of 80 MW in Phase 1, which will gradually expand to 160 MW by Phase 4. The facility will incorporate advanced liquid cooling technologies, including Direct-to-Chip and RackBank’s proprietary Varuna liquid immersion system.
This patented in-house innovation enhances energy efficiency and reduces power consumption. Compared to traditional cooling methods, it can lower cooling-related costs by up to 70%, representing a significant step forward in sustainable data centre operations. Sen said in a statement that,
The campus will serve as a hub for collaboration between academia, industry, and government, fostering an ecosystem of innovation and technological advancement by helping business harness the true power of AI. It will empower businesses, researchers, developers, Global R&D centers and innovators to harness the full potential of AI while ensuring the highest standards of security, sustainability, and efficiency.
Chhattisgarh as an AI Frontier
As AI technologies evolve rapidly around the world, India is expanding its infrastructure investment to fuel innovation. RackBank’s new data centre in Raipur is essential to this project, providing high-performance compute capabilities to support large language models (LLMs), generative AI, and data-intensive applications.
RackBank has strategically located its new facility outside India’s traditional tech hubs, such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad, to serve a diverse range of users, from enterprises and AI research labs to startups pioneering intelligent applications.
The facility runs entirely on renewable energy through a partnership with ReNew Power, making it one of India’s first hyperscale AI data centres to operate on a green energy model. This move underscores RackBank’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology with sustainable practices. Thus demonstrating their dedication to environmental responsibility as they drive innovation in the AI sector.
