Google Extends AI Editing Tools to Android and iOS

Recently, Google advanced its AI editing tools’ democratization effort by allowing them to be used on Android and iOS smartphones through its Google Photos app.

This extension consists of functions brought into the Pixel 6a for the first time from the Pixel 7 series, such as Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait light functionalities. Furthermore, non-Pixel device owners can use a lite version of the Magic Editor tool, which was initially released along with Pixel 8 devices.

The announcement follows a string of recent technical releases from the tech giant, among which are a new Workspace application and a public release version of Gemini 1.5 Pro.

The announcement by Dina Berrada, the Director of Product Management in Google Photos, represents an enormous change that will be effective from May 15.

The Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light among other kinds of AI-driven editing tools will be incorporated into Google Photos as a subscription-free service. Moreover, other devices will be catered for such as the Pixel tablets.

The function of the Magic Eraser is Google’s answer to similar facilities from rivals like Oppo and Samsung. It facilitates users to simply select regions of the image by circling the unnecessary objects and then utilizing AI to save background objects while removing distracting elements.

Photo Unblur through the combination of machine learning and facial recognition utilizes a solution to blurred images and improves the facial details.

Furthermore, the Portrait Light editor helps users to play with the light source inside the picture featuring less than 4 people by adjusting the intensity by employing a slider. Significant features among them are available for everyone using Android or iOS free of charge.

In conclusion, Google’s conscious decision to democratize its artificial intelligence editing tools implies a strategic move that can improve the user experience and also make digital imaging available to the public.

Taking away the need for subscriptions and widening device compatibility will provide more people with the ability to edit their photos using straightforward tools which will enable the users to go to the next level in their creativity.

This transition uncovers the fact that Google uses AI for enhancing user interaction across its platform portfolio which indicates further advancement of this technology and its integration into the consistently changing digital world.
